Virginia Creech
The Virginia Creech Scholarship for Creative Writing is an honor Liza Farrow-Gillespie bestowed upon her grandmother before she passed away. Liza was touched by her grandmother’s interest in poetry and love of creative writing, and wanted her grandmother’s memory to continue to serve Temple College students.
Impact
In today’s day and age, no one declares themselves a poet, but it’s through poetry that I find my inner voice and my inner calm. I can unlock the puzzle of emotion by studying how a poet has put words together for a very specific reason to get at a very specific meaning. When I write, it’s to express myself, but instead of just ranting, I try to insert hidden meanings and use techniques that give off a tone or a feeling. Poetry is me at my smartest, wisest and most challenged.
